  • About: Progressive, co-educational, independent school serving children ages 5 to 14 from surrounding southern Vermont communities and neighboring New York and Massachusetts.
  • Location: North Bennington, Vermont.
  • Established: 1987 by a concerned group of local parents and teachers.
  • Enrollment: approximately 25-35 students.
  • Faculty: 3 full-time teachers, 3 part-time instructors.
  • Student-Teacher ratio: 10:1
  • Academic Divisions: Multi-age group instruction with 3 developmentally-appropriate groups
  • School Day: 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. Students can arrive any time after 7:45 am for self-directed study and academic support, and stay until 5:00 pm in after-school.
  • Accreditation: Vermont Approved Independent School.
  • Core Academic Program: Multidisciplinary instruction in mathematics, reading, writing, science, social studies, music, art, drama, creative movement, and P.E.
  • Language Instruction: French.
  • Extra-Curricular: Swimming, skiing, theater, running, music, movement.
  • Secondary Schools Attended: Mount Anthony, Arlington Memorial, Cambridge Central, Salem, Hoosick Falls, Northfield Mount Hermon, Emma Willard, Ethel Walker, LaSalle, Miss Hall’s, Burr and Burton Academy, and others.
  • Special Strengths: Focus on multiple intelligences, students learning at their own pace and in their own style, social guidance to help students develop strong moral and ethical code, every child with a voice learning how to advocate for themselves, a strong sense of community – both inside and outside of school.
  • Affordability: Vermont sending town tuition vouchers accepted. We are committed to making a Southshire education affordable; financial aid is available.
